Erawan Falls

Thailand is home to some of the worlds most beautiful waterfalls, the most magnificent being the 4,921-foot Erawan Falls. Located in Erawan National Park in the Kanchanaburi Province, the seven-tiered Erawan Falls are thought to resemble a three-headed white elephant from Hindu mythology called the erawan. The water gently slopes down ranging from as high as 70 feet to as few as 10 feet in height creating a calming atmosphere like no other. The natural limestone deposits give the waters in the relaxing pools their sparkling blue colors. You can even watch a lot of fish in the travertine pools further downstream of the falls. Visitors can do jungle hikes around the falls or swim in its pools. For the best views, trek to the top of the falls, which takes about three hours round-trip. Along the way, youll have many opportunities to cool down in the falls many levels.

Although getting to the top of the falls may be a bit of a hike, it is well worth it, and if one were to get too tired, there are many opportunities to stop and swim in one of the many beautiful, cool blue pools that the waterfall creates and feeds into. Additionally, the 550 square-kilometer park surrounding the falls also houses four caves, Mi, Rua, Wang Bahdan and Phartat which offer up views of unique and uncanny limestone formations, stalactites and stalagmites to their visitors. However, as the park is also 75% forest, inanimate objects and formations are not the only thing to be seen in the park, The careful observer may also catch glimpses of everything from wild monkeys, elephants and eagles to pythons and king Cobras. For anyone hoping to see Thai nature at its best and most exotic, a trip to the Erawan Waterfalls in Erawan National Park would most definitely be in order.
