Khao Luang Mountain

Khao Luang, is situated in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. It is believed to be the tallest mountain in southern Thailand. With sharp slopes the mountain forms the highest summit of a massif of several hills. It is part of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Range which is a sub range of the Tenasserim Hills. This mountain is formed of a granite core and loose soils. But the soil that forms the steep slopes that may cause disastrous landslide if it is flooded with water. Though in some parts of the forest are replaced by rubber plantations. Khao Luang National Park is named after this famous mountain. The park is formed on this mountainous region, what enhances the beauty of this park naturally. The park is stretched over an area of 570 square kilometers. It houses a huge iety of habitats and wildlife including forests, mountains, waterfalls, and rivers.he is too good. The park area also works as an essential watershed for the enclosing farms and villages. Park offers a green roof in the southern part of Thailand. The headquarters of the park is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the Nakhon Si Thammarat town. The park also works as watershed for the Pakphanang River, Klai River, Tapee River, Nopphitam, and Pakpoon River. The park is located on the peninsula. As a result of which the weather of the region is highly influenced by the monsoons obtained from both the east and the west coasts. Due to this reason, the park receives a cold weather as well as a great covenant of rain all year around. Basically there are two main seasons. Rainy season starts from May and continues upto January. The heaviest rainfall takes place between October and December. Hot season continues from February to April. The park also houses a wide iety of Flora and fauna. Basically the region is covered with Moist Evergreen Forest along with Lower Montane Forest and Hill Evergreen Forest. More than 300 species of orchids can be seen inside the Park. Over 327 species of animals can be seen in Khao Luang Mountain. The iety includes Pig-tailed Macaque, Sumatran Serow, Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine, Malayan Tapir, Clouded Leopard, Sambar deer, Barking deer, Binturong, Tiger, Banded Langur, Wild Pig, Spectacled Langur, Red Junglefowl Panther. Whereas the bird species include Great Argus Pheasant, Black Eagle, White-crowned Hornbill, Crested Fireback Pheasant, Helmeted Hornbill, Great Pied Hornbill, Bushy-crested Hornbill, Sunbirds and Red-crowned Barbet.
