Things to do in Kollur
Kollur is a small temple town situated in Udupi district. There are various places to visit in Kollur. This place is famous for Mookambika Temple which is a Hindu Pilgrim Center. In this temple the goddess is described as in the form of a jyotirlinga which is associated with both Siva and Shakti. Kollur includes various places to visit like kodachadri Mountain, Saraswati Mantap, Balamuri Ganpati Temple, Veerbhadra swami shrine, Subrahmanya Swamy Shrine, Chowdeshwari Temple, Masti Katte, Garuda Guha, Mookambika wildlife Sanctuary. The drive through the sanctuary is amazing during monsoon. Visitors can see multiple waterfalls there. They can also engage in the saraswati pooja celebrated at Saraswati Mantap on ninth day of Navratri. Chowdshwari Temple is equally popular there to visit because it is believed that Chowdeshwari Mata was the sister of Mookambika Devi. Because of all these temples this place is called as Temple Town.

Mookambika Temple:
This temple is also known as Kolapura ‘Adi MahaLakshmi Temple’. It is a very famous temple in Karnataka and it is also one of the ancient shrines in India. This place includes a sacred ‘Siddhi Kshetra’. There are various legendry stories associated with it. Saraswati Pooja during Navratri festival is the main event celebrated at this temple.
Kodachadri Hills:
Kodachadri hills are the background for Mookambika Temple. This mountain is located in the center of the Mookambika wildlife sanctuary and it is approx 1343 meter above the sea level. This mountain peak is bordered by dense evergreen forests all around. It is an ideal place for trekking.
Saraswati Mantap:
It is a famous shrine of Goddess Saraswati. Saraswati mantap remains crowded during Saraswati pooja celebration at the time of Navratri. At the ninth day of Navratri, Saraswati pooja is celebrated. At this time people bring their children so that they can learn. Several artists, stage performances, dancers and scholars come to perform during Navratri Festival.
Bijadi village:
Bijadi Village is situated in the in the Udupi district in the state of Karnataka. This village can be reached by bus because it is located 33 km away from the main city of Udupi. Bijadi village is mostly visited by the fishermen for fishing at Bijadi Beach. Various houses are also situated here which are made up of wood and Mangalore tiles.
Ottinane:
Ottinane is situated near Byndoor in Maravanthe and it is a famous sunset Point. Tourists and pilgrims can stay at the nature or beach resorts that are located close to that sunset point. Visitors can see the beautiful view of sun setting down. In the monsoon people can see the hills covered with wild flowers and they can also see the Arabian Sea and Byndoor River from these hills.
