The prices of the products at this mall are fixed and there is no scope of bargaining. The best things that you can buy from here are winter clothing and you just go on window shopping. The timing of the mall is 10 am in the morning to 8 pm in the night.
2. Police Bazaar
Police Bazaar is the main shopping spot and cultural activity center in Shillong Meghalaya. The market opens every day and houses various shops offering local products, traditional dresses, etc. One can find anything ranges from food items to souvenirs, handicrafts, clothes, and electronics as well. One thing you have to note here that some shops have fixed prices for their products, hence enquire well before purchasing anything. Whereas other shops will gladly quote two to three times the actual price at first and hence don’t forget to bargain to get the best value for money products. The market is best for Leather goods and the timing of the operation here is from 10 am to 8 pm daily.
3. Bara Bazaar
Bara Bazaar is considered one of the oldest markets in Shillong, Meghalaya. It is a local market located in Lewduh which is typically a spice and food market. The main products that one can buy from here include local spices, meats, vegetables, and other food items. Apart from spices and food items, the market is also famous for the good variety of handicrafts made by local artisans. This market has also got a unique feature that it runs by women. The best time to stroll in the market is morning when the fresh stock comes in. The market is located on East Khasi hills and the timings are 8 am to 5 pm.
4. Purbashree Emporium
Purbashree Emporium is a Government of India Enterprise that sells traditional handloom sarees, jewelry, and cane furniture. All the products here are made by skilled local artisans. Prices here are fixed and there is no bargaining. It is the best place to by some souvenirs to take back home. It is located in Police Bazaar area and the Emporium operates from 10 am to 5 pm.
5. Khasi Emporium
It is also one of the many places in Shillong that sell traditional handicraft especially known for its bamboo handicraft items. The Emporium also sells traditional clothes and some Chinese articles as well. You can bargain for the prices as well here. The emporium is located in Police Bazaar only and the timings are from 8 am to 5 pm.
6. Hanumanbux Mahesh Kumar
This store sells a wide variety of clothing in Shillong. One can buy anything from men's clothing to dresses for women, as well as apparel for the kids. The shop is known for its warm clothing and other dress materials with a variety of vibrant colors. The shop is a fixed price shop, but the quality of the products here makes it reasonable. Hence, bargaining is not recommended here. The timing of the store is 9:30 am to 9 pm.
7. Rebecca’s Thrift Store
As the name suggests, Rebecca’s thrift store is a place to buy old and antique items. The store offers a good collection of vintage products on sale. This is the best place for artifact lovers as they can find something unique for their collection at reasonable prices. Apart from that, the store also sells clothes which were very fashionable in the 60s and 70s. The store is located at Lower Nongrim and shutters open from 9:30 am onwards.
8. National Book Agency
The National Book Agency is the one-stop-shop for English books and various magazines located inside the OB Shopping Mall. The book store has a good collection of both fictions as well as non-fiction books of many renowned authors in their stock. Apart from that, it also sells various popular travel, food, and lifestyle magazines with the current edition.
9. Daniel Syiem
Daniel Syiem is a designer store that is very popular among local women and female tourists. As the store specializes in clothing for women made from Khasi fabric. One can get a variety of clothes in different sizes and colours. Moreover, one can also shop for western dresses specially made from Khasi fabric, cotton, and other rich fabrics. The store is situated in Beathouse, Laitumkhrah, and operates from 10 am to 7 pm.
10. Meghalaya Handloom and Handicrafts Development Emporium
This is the one-stop-shop for all your handloom and handicrafts need in Meghalaya. The variety of products is huge, particularly famous for its Jaintia and Garo fabrics. One can also find an impressive array of souvenirs at this emporium and bargaining is always recommended here in this emporium. The emporium is located at Police Bazaar and operates from 10 am to 7 pm.
