About Santiniketan
It is a residential area close Bolpur in the Birbhum region of West Bengal, India, roughly 180 km north of Kolkata once in the past Calcutta. It was set up by Maharshi Devendranath Tagore, and later extended by his child Rabindranath Tagore whose vision moved toward becoming what is presently a college town, Visva-Bharati University.Santiniketan was prior called Bhubandanga after Bhuban Mohan Sinha, the Zamindar of Raipur in WB, and was claimed by the Sinha family.
In 1862, Maharshi Debendranath Tagore, while on a visit to Raipur, demonstrated enthusiasm for arrive close Birbhum. Maharshi enjoyed the place and enlisted it for the sake of Maharshi Devendranath against Rupee One as a token esteem.
