Shimoga

Shimoga, officially renamed as Shivmogga, is a scenic city in the state of Karnataka. The city is a nature lover’s paradise. Rich in culture and heritage, it has a history of its own.

Shimoga has been ruled by ious powerful kingdoms, such as those of Mauryan and Vijayanagara. It is a cultural center in itself. The four rivers of Sharavathi, Kumudavath, Tungabhadra and Varada flow through the city. They have helped in the formation of mesmerizing waterfalls at several places. The lush green landscape is wonderfully soothing to the soul. The ancient temples of Shimoga add to its mystical vibe.

Important places of tourist interest are the village of Agumbe, Gajanur Dam, Tyaekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari, Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary, and the Sacred Heart Cathedral of Shimoga. Various migratory birds visit Shimoga in winters.
