Uri

Uri is a town and a tehsil in the Baramulla region, in the Indian province of Jammu and Kashmir. Uri is situated on the left bank of the Jhelum River, around 10 kilometers 6.2 mi east of the Line of Control with Pakistan. Uri is situated at the passageway to the Kashmir Valley from the west, lying on the Jhelum Valley Road. Before the segment of Kashmir, the street connected Uri to Rawalpindi and Srinagar. Another critical street connected Uri to Poonch by means of the Haji Pir pass. Uri is at a separation of 76 miles from Srinagar, 42 miles from Muzaffarabad and 49 miles from Poonch.

On 22 October 1947, the innate intrusion prompted the fall of Muzaffarabad and Uri to the Pashtun clans from Pakistan. The plunderers at that point ended at Baramulla. Following the increase of the Maharaja to India on 26 October, India transported troops to the Kashmir Valley, who retook Baramulla and Uri by mid-November. The Indian government joined most extreme significance to the guard of Uri. Muzaffarabad, then again, went under Pakistani control and turned into the capital of Azad Kashmir. The tehsil of Uri was along these lines converged into the Baramulla region.
